The Book
After about an hour of
standing under a hostile African sun in the queue, the fat African mamma in
front of me in her brightly colored dress finished her business with the
immigration officer and I walked forward to the counter and proceeded to hand
over my passport. The seated officer – drenched in sweat, with a hankerchief in
his spare hand, took the document, threw a searching glance at me and began
conversing with ...

The Book
Zimbabwe. How did I
get there? What was my father doing in my room? And where was the money? These
were questions I could not answer, and for some strange reason my speech seemed
inhibited enough for me to remain silent, so I held onto them and carried them
with me – from my bed to a wheelchair; from the wheelchair into a waiting vehicle,
and from t...

***WARNING - THIS POST IS INTENTIONALLY OFFENSIVETO CAPITALIST THINKING***
This World Cup is quite a thing. A spectacle. An awesome tribute to what can be done when we come together as a nation. It could also be a farce, and a load of horseshit.... kinda like the V&A Waterfront, and I believe - as South Africans, we need to see it for what it is in order to not get completely lost in it, only to emerge - once again - into our reality of poverty, crime, and human rights atrocities, once all th... Spiritual Journey
I'm writing a book at the moment. It started in April
2000 when I heard a still small voice within me call with such sincerity that I
could not resist,
“Go where I tell you, and write your
story for the world to read.”
So I packed my
backpack and went off into the depths of rural Africa for 5 years where television, motor vehicles,
electricity and running water were all still revolutionary ideas. I can tell
you th...

Singcono Masisonke
Panorama Soccer Club has invited our Singcono Masisonke Soccer Project to be their development initiative. They want to adopt a team for training and development, league submission, and coaching development; they also want to sponsor soccer kits for our 64 children; they also want to put us in touch with Matthew Booth (Bafana Bafana Player) and his wife who live in the area and have a Sport's Trust for which they are seeking a development initiative to support; they are also sending an Under ... Percy is a 15 year old kid who's been with our High School StreetKid Soccer Initiative since 2009. Today he is in a holding cell somewhere, rightfully charged with murder.
How
could I have been so naive? How could I have known? What could I have
done to stop it? How have I failed? WHO'S TO BLAME?!!!
These
were all the thoughts running through my head when I heard the news. How do I get my brain around this?
I facilitated a camp this weekend with 42 of our pre-teen StreetKids who have joined ... Continue reading...

Spiritual Journey
Did you know that Hitler wanted to be an artist? At age eighteen he took his inheritance of seven hundred kronen and moved to Vienna to live and study. He applied to the Academy of Fine Arts, and later to the School of Architecture. Ever seen one of his paintings? Neither have I. Resistance beat him. It was easier for Hitler to start World War II than it was for him to face the blank canvas.
I'm reading an inspirational book at the moment called The War of Art by Steven Pressfield; it found it... Continue reading...

Mama Afrika
I don't get too serious on this blog very often, but I wouldn't be writing this if I did not feel it required your most sincere attention.
I went with Kim to the hospital today for some minor surgery (to her, not me), and after she came out of theater, I moved to collect some prescriptions from the pharmacy for her. While I was standing at the counter, my eyes wandered and it is only in that moment of wandering that I found the information that rocked my little world:
I'm just a boy who's had so many re-births and re-starts to life that I can't figure out how old or young I truly am! But I am just a boy; a human being with real experiences, emotions, thoughts, temptations, failures and weaknesses. I am in the process of writing a book to chronicle my wild African Adventures and Spiritual Journey and I will use this blog to experiment with different writing styles, tones, attitudes and the like. Sometimes I might seem to be a complete a*hole - please take no offense, I am learning as I go, hoping to grow my writing skills to one that will see my book published soon. your comments are the biggest contributing factor to my growth, and I welcome all of them, and will try to grow from them.
There's not much more to say about me - I'm just a boy. I love God, I love Africa, I love the poor... and this is my Journey.
Thank you for joining me.
